Over the years, my wash day routine has changed and so have my shampoo products. In years 1-3 I used the sisterlock starter shampoo religiously. In year 4-5 I started exploring different shampoo products to find the best ones that work on my color treated sisterlocks and my itchy scalp. Today I’m sharing my fave shampoo products that I am using on my sisterlocks.

I am at 5 years loc’d in my sisterlock journey and my locs are fully matured. Currently, I’m using a combination of Carol’s Daughter Design Essentials, Carol’s Daughter and Giovanni shampoo products as part of my wash day routine. I will either use these shampoo products to wash my own hair at home or I will bring them with me to my retightening appointments for my sisterlocktician to wash my hair.
My Wash Day Regimen for Mature Colored Locs
My current wash day regimen for my mature, colored sisterlocks includes four steps. I follow these steps with these products specifically for my sisterlocks. If you have new sisterlocks, this regimen is not meant for your locs.
1. Wash With a Clarifying Shampoo

Final Thoughts
I had no idea that when your locs change (mature, color, etc.) your hair regimen should change too. I was one of those people who thought I should be using the sisterlock starter shampoo throughout my entire sisterlock journey. I found out, way later than I should have, that I did not need to continue using the sisterlock starter shampoo.
Since then, I’ve educated myself and asked lots of questions from my sisterlock mentors. I found out about what shampoo products and hair care products I needed to use for my mature, colored sisterlocks to thrive. As my hair continues to change in years 5-10 I’m sure I’ll be updating and tweaking my hair regimen some more.
Has your sisterlock regimen changed from the beginning of your install? What shampoo products are you using for your sisterlock journey?
